The nest box for the lesser kestrel (Falco naumanni) is designed to encourage nesting of this small raptor in agricultural and rural environments.
The lesser kestrel is a key species in ecosystem balance, as it feeds primarily on insects and small vertebrates, helping to naturally reduce pests.
However, the loss of traditional buildings and cavities has reduced their nesting sites. With this nest box, you can actively contribute to its conservation.
Benefits of installing this nest box
- Promotes the recovery of the lesser kestrel
- Natural pest control in crops
- Contributes to biodiversity
- Ideal for farms, ranches, and rural environments
- Ecological alternative to pesticides
Species-adapted design
This nest box is designed following the needs of the lesser kestrel:
- Wide entrance
- Sufficient interior space for colonies
- Resistant and durable material
- Good ventilation and drainage
👉 Designed for installation on facades, rural buildings, barns, or elevated structures
Where to place the nest box
To increase the chances of occupation:
- install at height (minimum 4–6 meters)
- preferably in buildings or structures
- open areas with crops or pastures
- avoid areas with high disturbance
💡 The lesser kestrel often nests in colonies, so installing several boxes together greatly increases success.
A species allied with farmers
The lesser kestrel consumes large quantities of:
- locusts
- crickets
- beetles
- small rodents
This makes it a natural ally in biological pest control, especially in cereal crops.
