This nest box is made to resemble the materials common house martins ( Delichon urbicum ) use to build their nests. House martins collect mud balls to build their nests. In this case, we used ceramic (much stronger and more durable) to simulate the nests, and an L-shaped wooden support structure allows them to be installed on any building facade or under the eaves.
The house martin is a migratory and summer bird, its diet consists almost exclusively of small flying insects, such as flies, mosquitoes and aphids, so it plays a fundamental role in the biological control of pests .
It is a very gregarious bird, breeding in colonies divided into nuclei formed by both solitary nests and very dense aggregations of attached nests.
They are strongly loyal to their breeding site, although not as loyal to their partner, who usually changes every year, even every brood. Nests are repaired and reused for years.
