This triple nest box is specifically designed for the house sparrow (Passer domesticus), a species closely linked to urban and rural environments that has suffered a significant decline in recent years.
Unlike other birds, sparrows are social species that nest in groups, taking advantage of cavities in buildings, roofs, or structures.
This box replicates that natural behavior, offering three independent cavities in one shelter.
A shelter adapted to their natural behavior
Sparrows do not usually occupy isolated boxes. They prefer to:
- Nest in groups
- Share nearby spaces
- Establish small colonies
Therefore, a triple nest box:
✔ Increases the likelihood of occupancy
✔ Promotes the natural behavior of the species
✔ Allows several pairs to be housed in the same spot
It is much more effective than installing separate individual boxes.
Contributes to the recovery of a declining species
The house sparrow has disappeared from many areas due to:
- Lack of nesting cavities
- Building renovation
- Reduction of available food
Installing suitable shelters is one of the most direct measures to reverse this situation.
Especially useful in:
✔ urban environments
✔ gardens
✔ schools and educational projects
✔ patios and communities
Benefits for the environmental balance
Although not specialists like other birds, sparrows also contribute to the natural control of insects, especially during breeding, when they feed their chicks with:
- larvae
- insects
- small invertebrates
Furthermore, their presence is an indicator of a healthy environment.
Functional and resistant design
This nest box is designed to offer:
- Three independent compartments
- Accesses adapted to sparrows
- Weather protection
- Robust outdoor structure
Made of untreated natural wood, it allows for proper ventilation and better integration into the environment.
Where to install a nest box for sparrows
To increase the chances of success:
- Place between 2 and 5 meters high
- On facades, walls, or structures
- In areas with some activity (sparrows tolerate human presence)
- Orientation protected from intense sun and wind
Unlike other species, sparrows do not need completely isolated areas.
How to improve occupancy
To encourage the presence of sparrows:
- Maintain nearby vegetation
- Avoid pesticide use
- Facilitate access to water
- Offer food in the surroundings
The combination of shelter + suitable environment makes the difference.
Recommendation
In areas with sparrows, installing several triple boxes can encourage the creation of small, stable colonies.
Handcrafted manufacturing
Each box is handcrafted, with careful attention to materials and design to ensure durability and outdoor functionality.
It is not a decorative item, but a real shelter.
More than a nest box
This is not just a shelter. It is a direct way to help recover a species that is part of our daily lives and that we see less and less.
