Nest box for tits made of natural wood and equipped with an anti-predator plate for greater nest protection. Ideal for attracting blue tits, great tits, and other beneficial insectivorous birds.

Safe haven for small insectivorous birds

If you want to attract blue tits, great tits, and other small beneficial birds, this nest box is designed for them.

It is made of natural wood with FSC or PEFC certification and has an anti-predator plate at the entrance, designed to prevent predators or other birds from enlarging the hole and compromising the safety of the nest.

It is an ideal option for gardens, orchards, farms, and areas where you want to encourage the presence of insectivorous birds as natural support against insects.

What is this nest box for?

The tit nest box provides a safe place for these birds to shelter and breed.

Tits, such as blue tits and great tits, consume large quantities of insects and caterpillars, so their presence can be of great help in gardens, fruit trees, orchards, and crops.

The anti-predator plate adds extra protection, helping to maintain the size of the entrance hole and making the box safer and more durable.

Why choose this nest box

Because you not only offer shelter to birds, but you also incorporate extra protection at one of the most vulnerable points of the box: the entrance.

It is a practical, durable, and particularly interesting option for those looking to install nest boxes responsibly and safely.

Main features

  • Made of natural wood from sustainable forests
  • Treated with a coat of raw linseed oil
  • With metal anti-predator plate
  • Designed for small insectivorous birds
  • With an opening system for easy cleaning
  • Functional, resistant, and durable design

Entrance hole diameter and target species

The diameter of the entrance hole is a key element in a tit nest box, as it determines which species can use it and helps prevent larger birds from entering.

This nest box includes several entrance hole diameter options adapted to different tit species, with an appropriate size to ensure their access and safety during nesting. A correct diameter encourages the use of the box by these species and reduces the risk of competition or disturbance from other birds.

For example, a 26 mm hole is ideal for the common blue tit and the coal tit, while a 28 mm one is suitable for the crested tit. A 32 mm diameter is appropriate for the great tit and the tree sparrow, and 35 mm for the house sparrow.

Advantages of the anti-predator plate

The plate placed at the entrance helps to:

  • Prevent the hole from enlarging with use or from attacks
  • Improve internal security
  • Better protect the nest
  • Extend the lifespan of the nest box

Ideal for

  • Gardens
  • Organic orchards
  • Agricultural farms
  • Natural spaces
  • Biodiversity projects
  • Biological pest control

Assembled nest box or assembly kit for environmental education

This tit nest box is available both assembled, ready to install, and as an assembly kit, designed for environmental education activities, school workshops, and participatory projects.

The assembly kit allows children and adults to better understand the importance of insectivorous birds and their role in biological pest control, fostering practical learning and respect for nature. Once assembled, the nest box offers the same features and security as the assembled version.

How to install it

To increase the chances of occupation, it is recommended to place it:

  • Between 2 and 4 meters high
  • In a quiet area
  • Preferably oriented to the east or southeast
  • Avoiding continuous exposure to strong sun and dominant rain

How to achieve real results (key)

This is where there is often the most confusion. Many times a single nest box is installed expecting immediate results, but in nature it doesn't work that way.

Tits are territorial birds, but they also need a certain availability of shelters in an area to settle. In addition, not all boxes are occupied in the first year.

Therefore, when working with this type of solution in organic farming or farm management, it is common to install not just one box, but several.

This allows:

  • Increasing the chances of occupation from the first year
  • Encouraging more than one pair to settle
  • Creating a cumulative effect on pest control
  • Better adapting to bird preferences (location, orientation, environment)

In other words: it's not about "trying one", but about creating real conditions for it to work.

Recommendation according to space

Depending on the size of the area:

  • 1 nest box → suitable for starting or very small spaces
  • 3 nest boxes → ideal for gardens and orchards, significantly increases the probability of occupation
  • 5 or more nest boxes → recommended for larger farms or lands, where a real impact on biodiversity and pest control is sought

This is how you work when you are looking for a real result, not just a one-off installation.

Maintenance

It is recommended to clean it once a year, preferably in autumn or winter, when the box is no longer in use.

  • Open the front lid
  • Remove the old nest
  • Clean dry
  • Do not use chemical products
