This giant insect hotel is designed to reproduce a natural habitat with multiple differentiated spaces that attract and host beneficial insects such as solitary bees, auxiliary wasps, ladybugs, and lacewings, supporting pollination and the biological control of pests in gardens, orchards, and rural environments.

What is an insect hotel and what is it for?

An insect hotel is a structure composed of multiple differentiated compartments that replicate natural cavities for shelter, nesting, and hibernation of beneficial insects. It serves to promote pollination, support biological pest control, and increase biodiversity in gardens and orchards.

Ecological and functional benefits

The insects that can occupy this hotel play key roles: solitary bees and wasps are excellent pollinators, ladybugs and lacewings are natural predators of pests like aphids, and other groups help balance ecosystems.

Design and features of the giant insect hotel

This giant insect hotel has 11 "rooms" or sections with materials such as drilled logs, reeds, pinecones, straw, and Gero bricks, each designed to meet the needs of different beneficial insects. This way we find:

  • Drilled logs and reeds: used for nesting by pollinating insects such as solitary bees and wasps.
  • Pinecones and straw: ladybugs, spiders, earwigs, or lacewings hide and hibernate there; they feed on aphids and other insects that cause pests.
  • Box with holes: can be used by beetles such as the seven-spotted ladybug and other similar ladybugs, which are also great predators of aphids.
  • Box with vertical holes: used for hibernation or as a refuge for diurnal butterflies.
  • Gero bricks: the holes are mainly used by bumblebees, wasps, and solitary bees.
